An Algorithm for Automatically Extracting Dental Arch curve

Abstract Dental cone beam CT (CBCT) scans, due to their low radiation dose, are now widely used in the medical diagnosis of patients’ oral cavity. The reconstruction a panoramic view dental arch from scanned CBCT data facilitates dentist’s observation patient’s condition. most important technique for reconstructing panorama is extraction curve accurately. existing method rely on experience dentist manually connect curve, or use techniques related threshold segmentation extract curve. These methods dentists one hand. On other hand, when there interferences such as implants, metal tubes, braces missing teeth mouth, calculation will be wrong. Based this, this article starts with histogram data, and proposes highly robust fully automatic method. In actual experiment, curves 40 different patients were extracted, all can accurately automatically thus verifying effectiveness proposed algorithm.
